It feels like months have passed since the conceptualization of this idea. For quite some time now we have been examining the ecosystem, collecting feedback and building a project we believe to be very timely for our sphere.
The key question we tried to answer; how can we propel adoption and break barriers to entry into Web3? To us, this requires listening and hearing from our users or I guess seeing and reading from users (as the screen heads we are). The issue is, that communication has long been fragmented in the ecosystem and sometimes even completely missing. Communication is key or so I’ve heard…
Here we are, we wanted to create a comprehensive messaging standard that does not only have many “cross” functionalities (will get to this later) but one that is interoperable and integrable into any product/project in an attempt to consolidate communication for all.
So, I’d like to introduce to you xMS, “Cross Messaging Service”, by Bonfida, Notifi & Only1.
In simple terms, xMS is a Web3 native messaging tool.
What makes this special is the “cross” nature of the tool. This is the first messaging standard that allows both on and off-chain communication. One that is being built to be an open source framework that can be used to integrate a”cross” any product or project. The goal is to not only have on and off-chain messaging that is easily integrable across projects, but a messaging standard that is available across many blockchains (currently available for Solana & Ethereum). Really a standardized tool for the whole of Web3 developed with the core goal of bridging the communication gap.
xMS is merely in its baby phase as many call, beta, these are the features that we’ll start with:
Jabber, the first on-chain messaging application for Solana was launched by us in November last year. Jabber is used to send encrypted messages to other domain names, Twitter handles and sol addresses in a fully trustless and decentralized manner. Yet, Jabber presented some issues for mainstream adoption, specifically due to its decentralized nature (gas fees and signing transactions, for example). As an ode to breaking barriers of entry, we decided the best way to achieve this would be in partnership with other projects. This too speaks to the interoperability and composability of our products.
If it’s not obvious yet, Jabber will play its role in xMS by covering the on-chain messaging functionality and providing encrypted messages.
xMS will leverage the Solana Name Service. One of the clear benefits of the name service is a human-readable name that maps to a SOL address. Both Twitter handles and .sol domain names are a part of SNS and serve as the fundamental digital identity in xMS.
The perks of an on-chain identity in SocialFi & messaging applications have an obvious advantage. Hmmm, how do I make this clear?

*H77VAAbCrLpp87mYH89Njcea4yPHDFG1R04JNJKotTNk has messaged you*
Makes sense?
If you are eligible obviously don’t forget to test our beta xms.chat!
We hope to meet your “cross” messaging needs as far as possible. One thing is for sure, we will keep building to make sure it fits every need of every user out there.
Until next time, be safe and take care!
